Family support sub-group

The Family support sub-group was established to ensure the coherent development and sustaining of; good quality support to children and their families in the Lochaber area. The group has an emphasis on support to the most vulnerable children in their early years however, recognises the need to support the development of universal services to all children and their families which encourage the improved health and well-being of children and young people. The group has representation from;

  • The Highland Council Education Culture and Sport services
  • Highland Pre-school Services
  • The Scottish Childminding Association
  • NCH Lochaber
  • The Highland Council Social Work Services
  • Women’s Aid
  • NHS Highland
  • The Gypsy traveller forum
  • The Highland Council Childcare & Early Education service

It is chaired by the Lochaber Area Children’s Services Manager from social work services.

The remit of the group is;

  • To promote the development of good quality services that promote the health, development and well-being of children and young people 0-14 years
  • To promote and support the development of services supporting parent/carers in time of need including sure start funded provision and respite care
  • To promote equality and diversity in family support services
  • To assist in the development of and sustaining of; out of school services that support children with additional support needs
  • To link with other sub-groups of the Lochaber Childcare & Family Resource Partnership to provide opportunities that promote the on-going professional development of workers that deliver family support services in Lochaber.
  • To advise partner organisations of gaps in identified need in regards to family support services in Lochaber
